Important Information for Guests with Special Needs
We wish to welcome and provide assistance to help you experience Hā‘ena State Park. Please note that there is a 0.4 mile boardwalk/unpaved path from the main parking lot (and shuttle drop-off) to the beach and trailhead. Although there are ADA parking spaces located next to the beach, trailhead and restrooms, most of the park’s paths are unpaved and access to the beach is via a fairly steep embankment. Find more information on general trail conditions for hiking in the “plan your visit” section of our Info/FAQ page.
Hā‘ena State Park and Kaua‘i North Shore Shuttle allow certified service dogs only. A service dog is allowed under any condition in ADA guidelines. Emotional support animals are not allowed.
Parking at Hā‘ena State Park. The state park has ADA parking spaces for those who have a valid ADA decal or placard and who also present either 1) parking reservation or 2) Hawaii driver license / state ID. All individuals in the vehicle must be named on a state park reservation or have Hawaii ID. The entire party may drive forward to the ADA space after confirmation of IDs, reservations and ADA decal/placard by the attendant.
Kaua‘i North Shore Shuttle provides American with Disabilities Act (ADA), mobility and special needs service from Waipā to Hā‘ena. Please keep in mind there is a 0.4 mile boardwalk/unpaved path from the park’s shuttle drop-off at the state park which leads to the beach and trailhead. Although there is a paved path immediately surrounding the park’s restrooms, most of the park’s paths are unpaved and access to the beach is via a fairly steep embankment.
ADA shuttle arrangements (i.e. wheelchair lift) require advance notice. Email us at info@gohaena.com. There are some size and weight limitations to what we can accommodate, so please contact us right away to discuss your specific needs.
Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) and enjoy your visit to the beautiful north shore of Kaua‘i!
